How to Lower Blood Pressure

Many people are suffering with high blood pressure.  Below are some remedies that you can try at home to lower your blood pressure.

Drink more water: Not enough water in your body or dehydration can be a contributing factor to high blood pressure.  If your body does not have enough water, it will hold on to sodium so that it can hold on to water. Too much sodium can contribute to high blood pressure.  Also, if your body is dehydrated, it will begin to shut down capillary beds which then put more pressure on your arteries. This will make your blood pressure rise. So make sure to keep your body hydrated with 8-10 glasses of water a day. This will help to lower blood pressure.

 

Cinnamon: Now this doesn’t mean to reach for that cinnamon bun. Cinnamon is rich in calcium, iron, manganese, vitamin K and dietary fiber.  The calcium in cinnamon is what helps to lower blood pressure. Calcium aids the body in contracting and relaxing blood vessels. If you have a calcium deficiency, you could see your blood pressure rise. Adding cinnamon to your daily diet can help to lower blood pressure.

 

Garlic: Garlic is for more than just spicing up your food. It can also help to lower blood pressure.  Garlic increases nitric oxide in your body which helps to relax and dilate your blood vessels. This helps your blood to flow with more ease therefore lowering blood pressure. Add garlic to your favorite recipes or take it as a supplement. Be careful if you are taking blood thinners, as garlic can also be thinning to the blood.  

 

Ginger:  Ginger has blood thinning and anti-inflammatory properties. This can improve blood circulation and relax the muscles that surround the blood vessels which can lower blood pressure. Ginger can also help to prevent blood clots. You can consume ginger raw, added to food dishes, as a supplement, or by drinking ginger tea. It is not recommended to consume ginger if you are taking blood pressure medication because this can lower your pressure too much.

 

Enzyme CoQ10: Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant that naturally occurs in our bodies which is needed for energy.  CoQ10 supplements can help to lower blood pressure, and prevent heart failure and heart attacks. CoQ10 makes make your cells healthier.  This helps to lower pressure by reducing constriction. It is recommended to take 200 to 300 mg daily.

 

Beet Juice: Beet juice contains nitrates which the body then converts to nitrites and finally nitric oxide. This helps the blood vessels to expand which improves blood flow and lowers blood pressure. Add a glass of  beet juice to your daily routine to help lower blood pressure.

 

Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate contains flavanols. Flavanols cause blood vessels to dilate which helps to lower blood pressure.  This does not mean go crazy on the dark chocolate! Just a small amount each day will do the trick.

 

Flax Seed: Flax seeds contain alpha-linolenic acid, fiber, and lignans. All of these can help to lower blood pressure.  They have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and many other benefits for heart health. It’s best to consume flax seeds ground or milled.  You can either buy them whole and ground them yourself or your can buy it already milled. Just add some to your oatmeal or smoothies.
